Forbes Travel Guide is the only international rating system for tourist resorts, restaurants, spas, and ocean cruises, and it assesses properties based on traveler feedback, reviews, and other metrics.
A total of 48 global tourist resorts received the coveted Five-Star rating this year, with four entrants from the Maldives. The new Maldivian entries in the 2023 list include JOALI BEING, Patina Maldives, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, and Soneva Jani.

The Maldives now has a total of 22 tourist resorts listed in the Forbes Travel Guide, including those rated four-stars and properties rated “recommended” by travelers. The Maldives is home to over 160 tourist resorts, including some of the most renowned international hotelier brands. In 2022, the island nation won the "World's Leading Destination" title for the third time in a row at the World Travel Awards.
The Ministry of Tourism reported over 1.6 million tourist arrivals in the Maldives last year, and the country has set a target of 1.8 million visitors for 2023. So far this year, over 260,000 tourists have already visited the Maldives.
