Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increase by 12 percent

The number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year has increased by 12 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 174,000 tourists have arrived so far this year. Currently, an average of 6,200 tourists arrive daily.

A total of 155,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives during the same period last year. This is an increase of about 20,000 compared to last year. With the increase in tourist arrivals, there has been a change in the list of source markets for the Maldives.

Similar to last year, Russia topped the list with 18,500 tourist arrivals from the country. India, which ranked second last year, is now ranked fifth.

So far this year, 13,900 tourists have arrived from the country, which is 3,000 fewer compared to 2023. While tourist arrivals from India decreased, the number of tourists from Italy, the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, France, and Switzerland increased.

The second highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year came from Italy, with a total of 18,100 tourists. During the same period last year, Italy ranked third with 14,000 tourist arrivals. This is an increase of 4,000 tourists compared to last year.

China ranked third with 16,000 tourist arrivals. The country ranked eighth on the list during the same period last year. At the end of 2023, China was the third largest source market for the Maldives. UK remained in the same position, raking fourth with 14,500 tourists.

However, the number of tourists from the country increased by 10 percent this year. The government aims to attract two million tourists to the Maldives this year. This target can be achieved with an average monthly arrival of 166,000 tourists.
